Amateur Radio diplomas are an interesting goal for those who are looking for new challenges and want to capitalize on their efforts. They are a kind of reward for making contact with specific locations under given conditions. Personally, I really like the World Wide Flora & Fauna (WWFF) activity, which allows you to earn various diplomas for connecting with protected natural sites and parks. It's a great combination of amateur radio and being in nature, as everyone can "activate" designated natural areas.
I like to take my small transmitting equipment with me, get on my bike or go hiking to transmit directly from nature. It's the perfect combination of outdoor exercise, exploring the beauty of nature and amateur radio broadcasting. Plus, you'll make the opposing station happy, and thanks to you they'll get a connection from a natural location, and thus a diploma.
Similar programs like GMA and SOTA work on the same principle, where hills and peaks are activated. It's a beautiful symbiosis between amateur radio and hiking, which brings not only new experiences but also opportunities to earn diplomas.
